How to read tour ratings like an operator

We run a tour company ourselves, so here is how we look at reviews before we recommend anything. Use the same checks on any tour you are considering.

  • Volume beats a perfect score. A 4.7 from 700 guests tells you more than a 5.0 from 12. That is why every tour here has at least 100 reviews.
  • Read the newest reviews first. Boats, guides and owners change. What guests said last month matters more than what they said three years ago.
  • Look for patterns in the low reviews. One bad day happens to everyone. The same complaint again and again (late pickups, crowded boats, rushed stops) is a warning.
  • Check who the tour is for. A party catamaran and a quiet snorkel sail can both be 4.8 and still be wrong for you. Our verdict says who each one suits.
  • Look at guest photos. They show the real boat, the real group size and the real water, not the brochure.

About these reviews

Are these reviews real?

Yes. Every rating and review count on this page comes from verified bookings on GetYourGuide, where only guests who took the tour can leave a review. We copy the numbers as they are and update them every few months. We never write, edit or pay for reviews.

Why are almost all tours rated 4.5 stars or more?

Because that is our bar. We only list tours with at least 4.5 stars from 100 or more guests. Plenty of good Maui tours have fewer reviews; we leave them out until they have a track record.

What does "Our verdict" mean?

It is our own short take: who the tour suits and what makes it different. We run a top-rated tour company in Mexico, so we judge tours the way operators do. The verdict is opinion; the stars are guest data.

Where can I read the full reviews?

Click "Read reviews" on any tour. It opens the tour on GetYourGuide, where you can read every review, see photos from guests and check dates before you book.

Do you earn money if I book?

Yes. We earn a small commission from GetYourGuide when you book through our links, at no extra cost to you. Nobody can pay to be listed or to move up this page.
